All funds raised from the charity run will go the the American Red Cross Japan Earthquake and Pacific Relief Fund for the relief effort happening in Japan.
She might be a rich girl, but Gwen Stefani is also a generous humanitarian.
On Wednesday the No Doubt singer, 41, donated $1 million to Save the Children’s Japan Earthquake-Tsunami Children in Emergency Fund to help with recovery efforts in the devastated nation.
"I've been inspired by Japan for many years and have a true love, appreciation and respect for the Japanese people and their culture," Stefani told Us Magazine in a statement. "The disaster in Japan is beyond heartbreaking, and I want to do anything I can to help. I would never be able to make a gesture like this without the love and support of all the fans over all these years."
In addition to her donation, Stefani, who is mom to Kingston, 4, and Zuma, 2, is also encouraging her fans to contribute. Next week the L.A.M.B. designer will unveil a limited edition Harajuku Lovers T-shirt through nodoubt.com; all proceeds from sales will go to help in relief efforts.
Putting all of our petty woes into perspective At any time and without warning a quake of such magnitude that an entire country moves and the earth itself shifts on its axis
(CNN) -- The powerful earthquake that unleashed a devastating tsunami Friday appears to have moved the main island of Japan by 8 feet (2.4 meters) and shifted the Earth on its axis.
"At this point, we know that one GPS station moved (8 feet), and we have seen a map from GSI (Geospatial Information Authority) in Japan showing the pattern of shift over a large area is consistent with about that much shift of the land mass," said Kenneth Hudnut, a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Reports from the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology in Italy estimated the 8.9-magnitude quake shifted the planet on its axis by nearly 4 inches (10 centimeters).
To put things in perspective the Sendai earthquake was about 1000 times more powerful than the earthquake in New Zealand
Like after the 2004 tsunami which killed 230,000 people, the US is sending in the Pacific fleet, literally. But how much help aid can they offer at this point with thousands dead, thousands missing power and water out for millions and a potential Chernobyl style meltdown.
Glenn Reynolds, for years, has been linking to sites about disaster preparedness. It's one thing if you live out in the wilds of Idaho or Wyoming to have this list and/or this list of emergency supplies. But who in a major metropolitan area keeps these things around the house? At the very least, anyone who lives in California should have one of these at home and in the car. I've ignored the whole subject of disaster preparedness for years Perhaps today is the day to start taking it seriously.
Continuing her overseas promotional duties, Christina Aguilera was spotted at the premiere of her new movie “Burlesque” in Tokyo, Japan today (December 7).
The “Beautiful” babe was joined by costars Kristen Bell and Cam Gigandet as she walked the red carpet at the Roppongi Hills Arena in a sexy blue dress.
Fulfilling her promotional duties, Christina Aguilera was spotted at a press conference in Tokyo, Japan today (December 6).
The “Ain’t No Other Man” songstress was joined by her costars Cam Gigandet and Kristen Bell as well as director Steven Antin ahead of the premiere of “Burlesque.”
During her interview, Ms. Aguilera noted that while she may look super sexy onscreen, the reality of it all was that the movie was hard work.
"I was scared of being out there with real, professional dancers. It's harder than it looks. Probably the unsexiest thing is to see a dancer's feet. After dancing for 17 or 18 hours a day every day, your feet are just bruises and calluses."
With their relationship moving forward quite nicely, Christina Aguilera brought new beau Matthew Rutler along on an overseas trip to Tokyo, Japan.
The cute couple touched down at Narita Int'l Airport on Saturday (December 4), strolling through the terminal after flying in from LAX Airport in Los Angeles.
Paris Hilton arrives back in Los Angeles after getting turned away trying to enter Japan last night due to having a drug related criminal record. She was allowed to stay at the airport hotel while authorities determined whether or not to allow her to enter.
Japanese Immigration officials denied Paris entry into their county because of her guilty plea to cocaine possession this week.
Japan frowns on people who get convicted of drug offenses, so Paris -- seen above at the airport a few hours ago -- is on her way back to the US of A.
Before getting the boot, Hilton was detained at the airport yesterday for more than 6 hours.
A rep for Hilton says "Paris is very disappointed and fought hard to keep her business commitments and see her fans, but she is forced to postpone her commitments in Asia. Paris understands and respects the rules and laws of the immigration authorities in Japan and fully wishes to cooperate with them. Paris looks forward to returning in the future to a country she loves and has been coming to for the past 10 years.”
Before leaving Japan, Paris also tweeted, "Going home now. So dissappointed to miss my fans in Asia. I promise to come back soon. I love you all! Love Paris xoxo."
They had a long trip from the USA, and Paris and Nicky Hilton landed in Tokyo, Japan today (September 21) only to run into some serious issues.
The “Simple Life” actress was detained and interrogated by airport security for six hours regarding her recent drug charges. Meanwhile Nicky was allowed to leave after only an hour.
Making the most of her time in Japan, Olivia Palermo was spotted at the Ao Building in Omotesando, Tokyo for the Tibi event today (May 14).
The “City” cutie looked beautiful in a red button-up top with black trousers and black heels as she greeted fans and posed for pictures.
An onlooker told press, "She was really surprised by all the attention. Lots of Japanese girls recognized her and weren't shy about approaching her for autographs."
Meanwhile it sounds like Olivia has more trouble brewing with Roxy Olin. Olin told press, "Olivia is very well dressed. I will give her credit for that, but she's hard to deal with and we butt heads. I'm definitely on Whitney's team with this and after watching it, I'm like, 'Oh, my God! You're not a nice girl and what you're willing to do [to people], and you're sabotaging someone's [fashion] line that they worked so hard [on], and have been your friend and have been in your corner.' "
