Brett Favre

Brett Favre
The TV host at the centre of the Brett Favre texting scandal has spoken out for the first time and claimed: ‘I’m not a home wrecker’.
Jenn Sterger, a former game hostess with the New York Jets, denied having an affair with the married quarterback and claimed she had never even met him.
She angrily refuted allegations she is a ‘gold-digger’ and tearfully told how she just ‘wants her life back’.
It is her first interview since the scandal broke and puts pressure on Favre to fully come clean about allegations he sent Miss Sterger lewd photos in 2008.
The 41-year-old grandfather was fined $50,000 for failing to co-operate with an NFL investigation into the scandal.
He has admitting leaving suggestive voicemails on Miss Sterger’s phone, but denied sending explicit pictures of himself from the waist down.
In the interview Miss Sterger, 26, claimed her life has been ruined by somebody she doesn’t even know.
She said: ‘We’ve never met, there’s never been an introduction, we’ve never been any closer than this (motioning to interviewer) and that was in passing in the tunnels before the game. I’ve never met the man. I’ve never met him.'
‘I just want people to know that I’m not a gold-digger, and I’m not a home wrecker’.
Sterger denied reports she had been paid $12,000 via a third party for the pictures and voicemails which sparked the scandal when they surfaced on the internet.
She said those who claimed she was just doing it to further her career could not be more wrong.
She said: ‘It’s never been my intention to play the victim. People would say I asked for it, that’s been a lot of the perception that’s been put out there. It couldn’t be farther from the truth.
‘I don’t want anything from Brett Favre. I just want to move on. I didn’t do anything wrong.’
Favre, the Minnesota Vikings quarterback, is said to have sent Sterger the lewd messages while she worked as a hostess for the Jets and he played for the New York football team in 2008.
She was 25 and had been given the ‘dream job’ after being plucked from the crowd at a football game. The break led onto modelling work with Maxim and Playboy.
Speaking to ABC News, Sterger said the first she knew of Favre’s interest was when a man with a Jets badge came up to her at work and asked: ‘How would you feel if Brett Favre asked for your phone number?’
‘I looked at him and said: "I like my job an awful lot and I’ve been told I look remarkably like his wife. Have a good day".
'I walked away and that was the end of it. I didn’t give him my number but somehow he got it.’
The texts and voicemails came soon after, including messages like: ‘I ‘d love to see you tonight, I’ve just got done with practice’.
At no point did Favre reveal who he was but Sterger guessed from the clues he was leaving.
She said: ‘It wasn’t flattering. He’s married and more than anything I feel like it was intimidating. He was like that guy at the bar who just could not get the hint.'
She said she did her best to ‘stave him off’ by telling him she was always busy.
Asked why she answered at all, she said: ‘When all of this happened I consulted several people and I said I don’t know what to do.
‘All of them said be quiet, just leave it alone. Don’t complain’.
‘I didn’t do anything that would make him think this was OK. I staved him off and did my job.'
By the end of summer 2008 the messages stopped and Sterger left the Jets. But she confided in a blogger friend who broke her confidence last year and published the story.
Fighting back tears, she said: ‘I didn’t want it to get out. I’d dealt with it and it was over. The story comes out and it’s like someone punches you in the stomach.'
‘When everybody knows, when it’s out there in the public there’s this perception of you that people automatically start to think: "She’s a gold-digger, she’s a home wrecker".
I never even met the man.
‘My life was turned upside down. I was trying to go to work, do my job, but how are you supposed to report on the news when you are the news. It was embarrassing.
‘I didn’t want anything to do with it... the only reason I feel like I have to give this interview is for me, my family. ‘
The scandal has already cost Favre what was left of his career and he has announced this season will be his last playing football.
Favre’s wife of 14 years, Deanna has spoken of how she is relying on her faith to get her through what she called a 'struggle.'
It is not clear if she intends to divorce him. The couple have two children together, Brittany, 21, and Breleigh, 11, and one grandchild.
Adding to Favre’s woes is a separate lawsuit brought by two massage therapists who claim they were fired after he sent them sexual text messages.
Christina Scavo and Shannon O'Toole said they lost their jobs with the New York Jets when they complained about what he had done.
They are seeking unspecified damages for sexual harassment and job discrimination.

Maya Moore

Maya Moore
The alarm clock went off almost seven hours after Maya Moore finally fell asleep on Monday. The newest member of the Minnesota Lynx had been up the night before looking over the next day’s itinerary and making Skype phone calls to friends. By the time she was ready to close her eyes, it was 1 a.m.

Moore’s alarm clock actually turned on twice. The first time was 7:30 a.m., but her six-foot frame wasn’t ready to get out of bed. At 7:45 the alarm began to blare once again. This time, Moore was wide awake, ready to get a start crossing items off that schedule she studied hours earlier.

Before the lights and cameras were ready to shine on Moore, the 21-year-old headed from her room to the third floor of the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Hartford, Conn. for breakfast. There she dined on French toast, breakfast potatoes and bacon with the 14 other WNBA prospects attending the 2011 Draft.

Back upstairs, an ESPN crew began their day-long task of filming the former University of Connecticut guard ahead of showtime at 3 p.m. Moore dressed in a blue shirt and black dress pants, the same outfit she’d wear on several of ESPN’s top-rated programs in the coming hours. Moore was the only player who’d be fully dressed and made up at this time in the morning.

The charter bus to take the soon-to-be draftees to ESPN’s studios 19 miles away in Bristol, CT was ready to pull out of the Crowne’s parking lot at 9:32. Moore was the last one on the bus, taking seat number 19 in the fifth row, across from Stanford’s Jeanette Pohlen. The two could be heard chatting on the mostly quiet bus. The trip to Bristol was neither scenic, nor jaw dropping. Perhaps taking the long way – “I don’t remember going this way” was heard in the back of the bus several times – left many wondering if their new home cities will look like this.

Moore was among the first players to depart the bus. She, along with her fellow draft class members, were then led into one of ESPN’s main buildings and down a set of stairs to a lounge. Three rows of long tables faced eight large and three even larger flat screen televisions. Notebook computers were there to entertain, and many of the players checked out Facebook – later they were spotted friending one another – and WNBA.com. Moore was not one of them, however, as she was needed elsewhere.

By 10:15, Moore’s entourage grew to seven, with a four-person ESPN film crew, a member of WNBA public relations, an ESPN guide and this writer now in tow. Heading across campus to another building, Moore apologized into the camera for the dull weather – 60 degrees and cloudy. The guide then brought Moore to a taping of “First Take.” Entering the studio, Moore passed by two blown-up ESPN The Magazine covers featuring Phoenix Mercury star and former UConn standout Diana Taurasi. On set, Moore chatted with personality Jemele Hill before taping a segment with Dana Jacobson. The eight-minute piece ended with Jacobson quizzing Moore about Minnesota culture, further hinting there was little doubt as to whether she would go first overall.

Moore walked off the “First Take” set at 10:53 and headed back across campus to a third-floor conference room for the “WNBA’s Inspiring Women’s Luncheon.” There, she met back up with her fellow draftees, who had spent the last 30 minutes getting their hair and makeup done. With a full buffet of breakfast foods, Moore stood in line behind Liz Cambage and picked up a strawberry fruit smoothie, muffin and breakfast sandwich. She then took a seat at one corner of the long conference table positioned in the center of the room.

A short introduction video was played for the players and executives (ESPN, WNBA and NBA) in attendance. That was followed by weekend Sportscenter anchor Cindy Brunson introducing each of the prospects alphabetically. As Brunson recited each player’s accomplishments, they took a new seat in a director’s chair in front of large glass windows overlooking the campus. Moore sat with Ohio State’s Jantel Lavender to her left and Stanford’s Kayla Pedersen to her right. Each future WNBA player was then paired with an executive for a 10-question trivia game. The questions had to do with the WNBA or pop culture from its 1997 inaugural season. Texas A&M’s Danielle Adams won with eight correct answers, while Moore finished with six.

At 12:28, Moore returned to the players’ lounge. It was there she saw her mother, Kathryn, for the first time of the day. Moore gave her a hug and kiss on the cheek – the two would remain together through her selection three hours later. Moore then changed into her draft outfit: a black, silver and gold dress with black flats, an ideal choice of footwear given the mileage she would soon log on the media circuit. She touched up her own makeup as an ESPN hair dressers made sure that part of her was in place.

As Moore was being ushered to the set of “Sportscenter,” she walked across one of the campus’ outdoor basketball courts. The camera crew asked if Moore was interested in taking a few shots, but Moore shot them down politely, jokingly citing she didn’t want to get sweaty. By 12:48, Moore was sitting down with Chris McKendry for an eight-minute segment. In front of the cameras, Moore is a natural, well-spoken and gives you enough of an answer to make it worth your time.

Outside the ESPN cafeteria a short time later, Moore was introduced to University of California defensive end Cameron Jordan, who was on campus doing interviews ahead of the upcoming NFL draft. The two took a photo, which Moore later sent out on Twitter. She then returned to the players’ lounge for an hour of relaxation before Chief of Basketball Operations and Player Relations Renee Brown called her name as the top pick in this year’s WNBA Draft.

Moore is quick to respond when asked how she’s been able to handle the already hot spotlight.

“It’s something I’m used to,” she said. “I’m very relaxed with it.”

Moore backed that statement up on Monday, in front of both a national audience and small contingence of in-person followers. But before she prepares to hit the floor with the Lynx, she has one more item to cross off her checklist.

“I still have to finish a research paper on the WNBA,” said Moore, who graduates from UConn on May 8.

Scott Hall

Scott Hall
Former WWE star and troubled pro wrestling icon Scott Hall is fighting for his life, say some who are close to the ailing NWO grappler. Following a disturbing appearance at an independent wrestling promotion last week, some are comparing Hall's rapidly deteriorating condition to that of Michael Jackson's. Both Hall and Jackson are widely believed  to be addicted to no shortage of prescription medications.
It is important to note, however, that Scott Hall has not been accused of using any illegal drugs. TMZ reports that Hall is taking ten different medicines for "various ailments." He was hospitalized just last week for overdosing on prescription medication.
On Monday, Hall released his first public comments since last week's ordeal. Hall took to Twitter just moments ago to release the following statement: "At the hospital in New England! Doing good. Thanx for all your well wishes & support! The Bad Guy!"
Among the many friends and pro wrestling colleagues to support Hall in his time of recovery are Jim Ross, Eric Bishoff, and Kevin Nash.
WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross: Didn’t mention scott hall’s recent incident over wk’end. Don’t know any details. Feel bad 4 scott & pray 4 his good health. Really talented.
TNA leader Eric Bischoff: “Just watched the video of Scott Hall’s appearance in New England. Wish I knew how to help him. I know that others (including Vince McMahon) have tried recently. He was such an amazing talent, and deep down inside, a great person. His demons are killing him.”
Fellow NWO legend Kevin Nash: Scott is in the hospital up north,I’ll be at the airport when he lands and taking him to my home when he lands. Please don’t judge Scott on what you just saw.He would give any of you a kidney. to the motherf—– that made a joke who would want his kidney lol send me your address and lets see how funny it is. he’s my brother we will get through this. To Scotts fans thank you 4 your love you’re as special as he is.

NFL Draft 2011

NFL Draft 2011
The 49ers could be looking at quarterback, cornerback or outside linebacker with the seventh pick in the 2011 NFL draft.
The San Francisco 49ers are drafting seventh in the 2011 NFL draft and there are plenty of positions they can address. The position most people care about -- quarterback -- is potentially a position of need. The 49ers may bring back QB Alex Smith as new head coach John Harbaugh has publicly said he likes him.
SB Nation's Niners Nation isn't sure a quarterback will be there at No. 7 but thinks at some point they'll address the position.
The 49ers only QB under contract at this point is David Carr and new head coach Jim Harbaugh is viewed as a groomer of young QBs. No matter what happens in free agency or via trade, I'd be stunned if the 49ers didn't draft a QB. Andrew Luck was the ultimate desire but with him going back to school, none of the other first round-graded QBs is particularly appealing at the seventh overall pick. Instead I'd imagine the 49ers will look for a QB in the middle rounds, with guys like Christian Ponder and Colin Kaepernick potentially on the radar.
Other positions they could be looking at include cornerback and linebacker.
49ers fans are salivating over Patrick Peterson, while Von Miller has entered the discussion as well. A lot of mocks have the 49ers grabbing Prince Amukamara in part because Peterson and Miller are off the board. However, the potential rise of guys like Cam Newton and Blaine Gabbert could allow talented players to drop to the 49ers seventh pick.
Niners Nation selected CB Prince Amukamara with the seventh pick in SB Nation's 2011 NFL mock draft so he'll be on the board assuming Peterson doesn't fall.
The 49ers have plenty of options come April 28 wen they walk up to the podium for the seventh pick. For more on the 49ers draft day plans, check out Niners Nation.

Liverpool vs Manchester City

Liverpool vs Manchester City
Manchester City travels to Anfield on Monday to face Liverpool in the highly anticipated match up that could inspire a late run in the Premier League title race. Earlier in the season, Liverpool succumbed to a disappointing 3-0 defeat at the hands of City. Manchester City are currently in 3rd place, while Liverpool sit 11 points behind City in 6th place. Kenny Dalglish has not lost a game at Anfield while being in charge; nonetheless, City seems to be in fine form coming off a 5-0 win to Sunderland. Liverpool are coming off a 2-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion and will be without skipper Steven Gerrard for the rest of the season. Furthermore, the last time City and Liverpool met, City won 3-0.
Liverpool:

Liverpool are without captain Steven Gerrard and defenders Daniel Agger and Glen Johnson. To make matters more complicated, Agger limped off in the match against West Brom last Saturday and is out the rest of the season with a knee injury. The previous two matches at Anfield have finished all square. Liverpool may be benefited because they finally have financial stability, which will help stabilize things around the club. A win against City would definitely boost the rest of Liverpool’s season and push them to the all important European qualification. Perhaps new signings Suarez and Carroll will find their chemistry and goals will flow. Liverpool Player to Watch: Suarez.
Manchester City:

Manchester City have 14 clean sheets this season and have only conceded 27 goals. Many would say that City should be sitting at the top of the Premier League after investing millions of pounds on summer signings. Capitano Carlos Tévez, El Apache, scored 2 goals the last time these two teams met and is always a player to watch. David Silva has recently been hailed by boss Mancini, and has become proficient as the “Trequartist”, or playmaker that sits in behind the strikers. Despite a 5-0 win to Sunderland, Manchester City have only won 6 of their 15 games on the road this season. Additionally, City has not won at Anfield since 2003. In order for City to be title contenders as well as hold their Champions League spot, these are the types of games they need to win. City Player to Watch: Silva.
City will be without Micah Richards Jerome Boateng who are both sidelined because of injury. As well, Zabaleta will not be an option because he has returned home to Argentina to see his father who was badly injured in a car accident.
Prediction:

Despite Liverpool playing at home, this will be a very difficult game for Dalglish and his men. City seem to be in fine scoring form after their 5-0 win. The question of whether or not they will continue to struggle away from home still looms. Regardless, this game has the potential to boost either team’s finish to the Premier League campaign and will no doubt be a hard fought encounter. In the end, City has too much quality in the midfield and in going forward. City prevails.
Pick:

Liverpool 1-2 Manchester City

Blackpool vs Arsenal

Blackpool vs Arsenal
Well that's a rude re-introduction to the Premier League for Arsenal backup backup backup goalkeeper Jens Lehmann. Jack Wilshere tried to break up a threatening Blackpool attack by obliterating Luke Varney, but although he succeeded in flattening his man it made no difference to the overall move and the hosts surged forwards, with Lee Mason playing advantage. The Gunners' defence was stretched and the ball was threaded through to DJ Campbell, who was rather clumsily taken out by Lehmann. Instead of giving a penalty (and a sending off*), Mason elected to play on, and the ball broke loose to Gary Taylor-Fletcher, who took a couple of touches and threaded the ball into an empty net to halve the deficit.
Minutes later and Blackpool could have had another through a penalty as Laurent Koscielny felled Taylor-Fletcher in the area, but Mason was rather less competent in this instance and waved play on after what was a clear foul. They also should have scored after Jason Puncheon sent in an inviting cross minutes after that, but Kevin Southern rather messed that one up, so it remains Arsenal 2-1 Blackpool.

The Masters Leaderboard

The Masters Leaderboard
On Saturday in Augusta, Tiger Woods has completed the front nine holes of his third round. Woods was unable to ride the momentum he created on Friday; as he heads to the back nine, he stands at 1-over for the day and a few spots lower on the Masters leaderboard.
Woods, noted in golf circles for being an enthusiast of the sport, stumbled out of the gate with a bogey on his first hole. A third-round birdie was answered by another bogey on the fourth hole, and he remained even after that.
Luckily for Woods, tournament leader Rory McIlroy is shooting even for the day so far. Woods is presently 6-under for the tournament, four strokes behind the lead.

Augusta National Golf Club

Augusta National Golf Club
Rickie Fowler and Jason Day approach the seventh tee.
McIlroy and Day look like golfers. Fowler looks like a leprechaun, except a little taller. His shirt, pants and shoes are so green they could have been watered. His green cap is big enough to cover a golf bag.
A man standing with his middle school-aged son nods at Fowler.
"Ask if you can borrow his Xbox," he says. "Talk Xbox stuff."
Talk it to all three. McIlroy is 21, Fowler 22 and Day 23.
"I am the old man in the group," Day says. "The thing is, it took me forever (to play Thursday's opening round). Like those two blokes were walking as quick as possible and I can't keep up with them. So I was just walking alone."
Youth must be served. But at the Masters it tends to be served up. Tiger Woods is the youngest winner in tournament history. He was 21 when he won in 1997.
Since then, only four winners have been in their 20s. Three of them were Tiger and the other was Trevor Immelman.
Experience is treasured at Augusta National Golf Club. Although this is only McIlroy's third Masters, he played Thursday as if he was a veteran of 25.
He shot a 65 and is tied with Alvaro Quiros for the first-round lead. Fowler and Day played their first Masters. Fowler birded four of the last five holes and shot 70. Day shot 72.
They are entitled to believe. The should believe. McIlroy won the 2010 Quail Hollow Championship and Day the 2010 HP Byron Nelson Championship. McIlroy and Fowler have played Ryder Cup. Fowler was the 2010 PGA Rookie of the Year.
We could be watching them a long time. Could we see one of them in a green jacket Sunday?
"Rory is certainly very close," says Day. "Obviously he's there right now. He's a very consistent player. You can just see how confident he is on the course. You know, Rickie is right behind him. I think I've got a little bit to go."
Day is from Australia, Fowler from Southern California (he played golf at Oklahoma State) and McIlroy from Holywood - Northern Ireland.
As McIlroy walks to the ninth tee Thursday, an averaged-sized guy next to the ropes says, "From seeing him on TV I thought he'd be 6-3. I'm bigger than he is."
"Yeah, but he hits it farther," says the averaged-sized guy's friend.
McIlroy, who is 5-foot-10, hit the ball far and straight. He didn't bogey a hole. He birdied five.
As they played, their gallery grew. I'd like to say their fans were younger and hipper than those in the galleries of the other golfers. But Augusta National Golf Club has many rules. Applying the term hip to its clientele is expressly forbidden.
The gallery included no skateboards and few tattoos, and if hair was dyed, it was dyed black. But there was enthusiasm. For a few hours, this was the future.
"You know, it was great out there," says McIlroy. "In the last six or seven holes, you could really feel the buzz of the crowd."
As the trio walked onto the 18th green, Fowler and Day together, and then McIlroy, the ovation with which they were greeted was warm and loud. Day knew it wasn't for him. Fowler touched his cap. When McIlroy arrived, he lifted his putter.
"Ror-ee!" the crowd roared, and McIlroy lifted his putter again, higher this time.
"Special," says Day. "Yeah, special."
Perhaps Fowler's outfits also will be. He'll wear blue today, green Saturday (he adds if he makes the cut) and Oklahoma State orange Sunday.
What if you win?
"Everything looks good with a green jacket," Fowler says.

The Masters Live

The Masters Live
Zach Johnson calls the par-5 13th his favorite hole at the Augusta National Golf Club. That same hole helped send him home early from the Masters.
Johnson, the 2007 Masters champion, Cedar Rapids native and Drake graduate, bogeyed the 13th in a second-round 73 Friday.

Johnson also shot 73 in the first round and finished at 2-over-par 146 to miss the cut by one stroke.
"It was extremely frustrating out there today," Johnson said. "I just didn't putt well. I missed four putts inside eight feet. The pine placements were tough, tougher than in the first round. But the fairways are pretty generous out there and you had chances to play well.

"But I just didn't play well."

To make the cut at the Masters, you must finish among the top 44 scores and ties or be within 10 shots of the lead. His chances took a hit late Friday when first-round leader Rory McIlroy retained the lead with a 3-under 69 to finish at 10-under 134.

Forty-nine players made the cut, including seven players at 1-over 145. That group included two-time U.S. Open champion Ernie Els.

Johnson, who won the 2007 Masters, will take next week off and return to the PGA Tour at the Heritage in Hilton Head, S.C., in two weeks.

"I'll hang around and see if I make the cut," Johnson said. "But I'm just frustrated in how I played the past two days. You only get to play here once a year and I was ready. I just didn't execute and just didn't get the job done."
Masters leaderboard
Johnson, playing in his seventh Masters, missed the cut in both 2005 and 2009. He has not missed a cut this season in seven previous events on the PGA Tour.

Johnson played Augusta’s front nine in 1-under 35 Friday, making birdies at the par-5 second and eighth holes with a bogey at the par-4 third.

He was still 1 under for the day, and even par for the tournament, when he reached the 13th. Johnson had played the hole in a combined 9 under par for his career entering play Friday — 11 birdies and a double bogey.

But he made bogey Friday, then bogeyed again at the par-4 14th to slip to 2 over par. That’s where he finished after pars on the final four holes.

Allen Iverson

Allen Iverson
Allen Iverson says to cops: 'Do you know who I am?' Allen Iverson's silver 2009 Lamborghini was impounded recently.

Luckily for Allen he'll soon be able to get the car back.
The Altanta PD report says they impounded the B-ballers sports car in which he was a passenger when an officer realized the vehicle was operating with expired dealer tags, dating back to 2009.
The incident was first reported by our friends at TMZ and it occurred Wednesday around 7 p.m. The car was pulled over in the parking lot of a hotel in the 3200 block of Peachtree Road.
Iverson, according to reports, became angry after being told the car would have to be towed.
"Take the vehicle, I have 10 more," Iverson reportedly said. "Police don't have anything else (expletive) to do except (expletive) with me. ... Do you know who I am?"

Manchester United vs Fulham

Manchester United vs Fulham
Despite a promising start from Fulham, who've tested Tomasz Kuzczak in the Manchester United goal several times already, the visitors find themselves down by a goal. Nani ran straight at the heart of the defence, with Gary Caldwelland Antolin Alcaraz coming out to challenge, but although they did eventually manage to get a tackle in on the Portuguese winger, the ball popped straight to Dimitar Berbatov and the Premier League's leading goalscorer sent in an assured finish past Mark Schwarzer for goal number one of the afternoon.
Of course, Berbatov was offside and the 'pass' by Nani looked largely accidental, but the home crowd won't mind. This is one potentially annoying fixture that's rapidly become rather pain-free, although United will want another goal to alleviate the threat posed by the likes ofBobby Zamora and Gael Kakuta. Fulham, of course, will feel hard done by, but with the side well beyond the relegation battle and with little to play for they can just relax and enjoy the day.

F1 Malaysia

F1 Malaysia
Double world champion Fernando Alonso has conceded that there is no secret to where Ferrari's underperforming car is losing out to its arch-rivals from Red BullRacing and McLaren-Mercedes in F1 2011 – it is simply a lack of pure speed – but after qualifying fifth for this weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang, the Spaniard professed himself 'extremely happy with the result' and confident of fighting for a podium finish come race day.

Having entered the new campaign bullish about its prospects of avenging its title near-miss in F1 2010, Ferrari has unexpectedly endured a torrid time of things thus far, with the F150° Italia evincing nothing of the raw pace that it had seemed to display during pre-season testing.

A fortnight ago in Melbourne, Alonso was a full 1.4 seconds adrift of pole position in fifth on the grid for the curtain-raising Australian Grand Prix, and he took the chequered flag more than half-a-minute behind race-winner Sebastian Vettel in a distant fourth place. Whilst – despite high hopes – little appears to have changed over the intervening two weeks on the basis of qualifying in Kuala Lumpur, the 29-year-old is convinced that the necessary improvements can be made and that the current deficit can be overcome.

“I'm extremely happy with the result today,” he underlined. “Yesterday, we suffered a little bit with the pace and the balance of the car. We made a lot of changes overnight, and the car felt much better today. We made another big change before qualifying and the car improved again, and I feel much more comfortable now driving the car in these conditions [and with] this set-up. I feel this fifth place is a positive result; we were expecting more problems in qualifying, or a worse position.

“Unfortunately, we were not quick enough in Australia and we are not here in Malaysia either, at least not enough to fight for pole position. What we lack in comparison to Red Bull and McLaren is speed – we have not been fast, and we expect no miracles. China is in five days, so I expect a difficult weekend there as well.

“From what we have seen, there are two teams who have worked better than us over the winter and clearly we have to make some progress in terms of performance – we must improve for the coming races. We need to make a step of some quality [and] we need to be aggressive in our development to make up lost ground.

“At the same time, we have to stay calm and concentrated and, in the meantime, bring home as many points as possible every weekend, exploiting every opportunity that comes our way. At the moment, this is what we have and over one-lap pace, we are not quick enough, but so much can happen and maybe tomorrow with the weather conditions, things can change in the race.

“It's difficult to make predictions for the race – yesterday we saw very high tyre degradation, so we can expect three to four stops – but we need to maximise and take any opportunity that is given to us, and I think if we finish, we will be on the podium. We'll see tomorrow what the final position is. The championship is very long, and last year we saw how the situation can change continuously from one race to the next. I'm very optimistic.”

Seventh-placed team-mate Felipe Massa was four tenths of a second slower than Alonso in qualifying around the Sepang International Circuit, and the Brazilian agreed that Ferrari has much work to do and that the pair are likely to be have to run 'a defensive race' on Sunday, acknowledging that Red Bull and McLarenare in a different league at present.

“It was definitely not an easy qualifying, especially looking at the times the top four were able to do,” reflected the Paulista, who has twice claimed pole position in Malaysia although never converted it into even a podium finish. “The gap between us to them is very big. We fought with the others but clearly, compared to the best, we will be running a defensive race tomorrow.

“From a strategy point-of-view, if it's dry we can expect three or four stops. If it really rains, then anything could happen and we will have to be ready for any eventuality. Today, the best result we could hope for was fifth. I was not able to do that, partly because I did not do a perfect lap, but at least I will start from the clean side of the track. We know we lack aerodynamic downforce; we are working on it, but only when we have made some progress will we be able to fight for the top places.”

Hulk Hogan

Hulk Hogan
The superstar pro-wrestler is taking on a new role in a TruTV reality show that’s in production now tentatively titled Micro Westling, which centers around the wrestling world of little people.
The Hulk (a.k.a. Terry Bollea) will be the man behind the wrestlers: “He’s the guy who inspires, recruits, trains and mentors them. He’s been involved in every step -- only this time it’s on a smaller scale,” his attorney David Houston tells RadarOnline.com exclusively.
“It will explore the fascinating world of wrestling on the scale of little people,” he adds. “It will show their extraordinary physical capabilities and the true strength of people of that stature.”
The show will also give viewers an inside look into what goes on day-to-day, how they train -- essentially “invading their world and learning about a whole different lifestyle,” Houston says.
After undergoing major back surgery late last year, the newlywed Hulk, who got married in December to longtime girlfriend Jennifer McDaniel, is back to full health.
“His health is exceptional,” Houston says. ‘He’s improved dramatically. He’s in better shape now than he has been in 15 years. He’s a remarkable athlete and I would not be surprised if he made a decision to get back into the ring and give wrestling another shot.”

CSK vs KKR

Dhoni
Defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will open their Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the MA Chidambaram stadium on Friday.
Led by Indian skipper MS Dhoni, CSK successfully managed to retain most of their players for the season and they will start as the favourites against KKR, who have gone for a completely revamped side with Gautam Gambhir at the helm.
The CSK have been the most consistent team in the IPL reaching the final in 2008, reaching semi-final in 2009 and winning the trophy last year.
On the other hand, KKR have been consistently inconsistent finishing sixth among eight teams in 2008 and 2010, while last in 2009.
However, with a completely new squad team owner Shah Rukh Khan can hope for a better performance this season. In Gambhir, who was instrumental for Delhi Daredevils, they have a good leader and an explosive opening batsman.
The middle-order boasts of players like Jacques Kallis, Ryan Ten Doeschate, Manoj Tiwary and Yusuf Pathan, who on their day can change the course of the game in few overs.
With Brett Lee, Lakshmipathy Balaji, Jaydev Unadkat and all-rounder Rajat Bhatia, KKR seems to have enough ammunition to change their record at the MA Chidambaram stadium, having lost all the matches they have played here.
The Chennai outfit might be without Doug Bollinger, who is expected to join the squad next month and spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan (bought by Kochi), but they are still one of the best side on paper in IPL.
The batting department comprises Murali Vijay, Suresh Raina, Subramaniam Badrinath, Michael Hussey, Dhoni and Albie Morkel.
In bowling they have the "best new-ball spinner" Ravichandran Ashwin along with Ben Hilfenhaus, Sudeep Tyagi and Nuwan Kulasekara.
Being the first match of the season, it is still early to predict the teams on the basis of names, but CSK look ready for the challenge far better than KKR.
Teams: (from)
Chennai: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (Captain, wicket-keeper), Suresh Raina, Murali Vijay, Subramaniam Badrinath, Michael Hussey, George Bailey, Albie Morkel, Scott Styris, Dwayne Bravo, Wriddhiman Saha, Suraj Randiv, Francois du Plesis, Tim Southee, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ben Hilfenhaus, Sudeep Tyagi, Nuwan Kulasekara and Joginder Sharma.
Kolkata: Gautam Gambhir (Captain), Jacques Kallis, Eoin Morgan, Brett Lee, Shakib Al Hasan, Ryan Ten Doeschate, James Pattinson, Brad Haddin, Yusuf Pathan, Lakshmipathy Balaji, Manoj Tiwary, Jaydev Unadkat, Iqbal Abdullah, Laxmi Ratan Shukla, Shami Ahmed, Shreevats Goswami, Pradeep Sangwan, Sarabjit Ladda, Manvinder Bisla and Rajat Bhatia.

US Masters Golf 2011

US Masters Golf 2011
It should come as no surprise that Phil Mickelson showcased both the best and worst of his game as he launched the defense of his Masters title at Augusta National on Thursday.
Nothing the American does on the course is ever conventional and the huge galleries that follow him love him all the more for it.
He began his bid to win back-to-back Masters titles with an opening round of two-under-par 70. By his own standards, it was a standard score that was neither great nor disastrous, but his round was anything but routine.
His driving off the tee was erratic and he found only four of 14 fairways, spraying the ball left then right, into trees and on the pine needles. But none of that was unexpected.
Mickelson has always been an unorthodox player prepared to gamble and he needed all his wits to stay in touch with the leaders, Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland and Spain's Alvaro Quiros, who ended the day five shots ahead of him.
The left-handed hitting American made up for his erratic drives with a masterful demonstration of scrambling, conjuring up ways to make par from seemingly hopeless positions.
It was not pretty but his powers of recovery were effective and he made only one bogey all day, on the final hole, when he overshot the green and his ball went into the crowd.
"It's okay, just okay," he told reporters.
"I didn't shoot myself out of it but I didn't make up ground on the field the way I wanted to, so I've got to go do it tomorrow."
Mickelson knew he had not played his best but had no need to be alarmed. In two of his three Masters victories, he shot 70 or higher in the first round and the world number three had much to be pleased about.
He still created plenty of birdie opportunities so knows that he can shoot a better score.
"I scrambled well today to stay in, but I also let four or five good birdie opportunities slide," he said.
"I'm going to have to capitalize on those opportunities tomorrow if I'm going to go low."
Mickelson's topsy-turvy day proved to be an eye-opener for U.S. Amateur champion Peter Uihlein, who was in the same group as Mickelson and Australia's Geoff Ogilvy, who shot a 69.
"It was awesome," said Uihlein, who posted an even-par round of 72.
"He's obviously an incredibly nice guy, and it was just fun to pick his brain and just talk to him a little bit. And he's an unbelievable player, too."

Shakhtar

Shakhtar
Sergio Busquets may not be the fastest player around but his tactical awareness is unparalleled, and the ersatz centre half has just prevented an equaliser at the Camp Nou. After Douglas Costa robbed Seydou Keita in midfield and burst forward into a two on one chance with Luiz Adriano, it looked as though Shakhtar Donetsk were on the very verge of scoring, but Busquets covered the attempted centering pass expertly and managed to knock the delivery well out of harm's way. An excellent piece of defensive work by a man who normally plies his trade in the midfield.
It's still a very open game, though, and although that might suit Barcelona on paper it probably does them no good in practice. Are Pep Guardiola's side even capable of closing up shop and playing defensively? Will they need to? Time will tell, but they can't keep giving Shakhtar chances and failing to convert their own.

Cow That Can Jump

Cow That Can Jump
Like millions of little girls, Regina Mayer wanted a pony but sadly, was stymied by her parents. Also like millions of little girls, Mayer was raised to believe in cows that can jump over the moon. So with a saddle, tons of treats and some gentle cajoling, Mayer's galloping, hurdle-jumping cow is making headlines around the world.

"She thinks she's a horse," Mayer told the Associated Press Monday.

Not only can the cow gallop and carry Mayer on long walks through the nearby woods along the Austrian-German border, Mayer has even taught the cow to jump a makeshift hurdle of beer crates and painted logs.

When Luna was born just two years ago, Regina took a shine to the young calf and would often go for walks with her. After getting the cow acclimated with human contact, she tried out riding.

"She was really well behaved and walked normally," Mayer told AP. "But after a couple of meters, she wanted me to get off! You could see that she got a bit peeved."

The pair are now inseparable, with Mayer taking the cow on hour-long rides each day. It seems she finally made her dreams a reality.

It's a lot of work "but I enjoy it," Mayer said.

Barcelona

Barcelona
Barcelona must be on their guard when they welcome UEFA Champions League dark horses Shakhtar Donetsk to Camp Nou.
The Ukrainian outfit are making their first appearance in the last eight of Europe's elite club competition, but tasted victory on a recent visit to the home of the Catalan giants.
Shakhtar secured a 3-2 success in their December 2008 Group Stage meeting and also ran Pep Guardiola's side very close in their two other recent meetings.
Their away group date in 2008 ended in a 2-1 success for Barca, but they needed an 87th minute leveller from the mercurial Lionel Messi with the Argentina ace bagging the winner in the fourth minute of added time.
And the 2009 Uefa Super Cup meeting between the winners of the Champions League and Uefa Cup saw Guardiola's men triumph, but only courtesy of a Pedro effort five minutes from the end of extra time.
It is also worth noting that Mircea Lucescu's men topped their group this season ahead of Arsenal, who Barca saw off in their last-16 meeting, and Braga, who ended Liverpool's Europa League ambitions this term.
The Pitmen may be making their first foray into the knockout phase of the Champions League, but they brushed aside the challenge of Roma in the last round, triumphing 6-2 over two legs against the Serie A side.
However, Barcelona remain a fearsome force, particularly on home turf, and Guardiola has a galaxy of stars on whom he can call in a side which is widely regarded as one of the finest ever assembled.
The Camp Nou supporters have watched their side secure eight successive victories in European competition, including four so far this season, with their last defeat coming at the hands of Rubin Kazan in October 2009.
Guardiola could have experienced defender Carles Puyol back in action, with the Barca skipper having made his return to training after suffering a knee injury in January.
Striker Pedro has not featured since the middle of March when he sustained a groin injury in the 1-1 draw with Sevilla, while Maxwell missed the recent trip to Villarreal with a sore thigh.
Eric Abidal underwent surgery to remove a tumour from his liver earlier this month and is continuing his recuperation away from the squad.
Lucescu saw Eduardo and Dmytro Chygrynskiy suffer ankle injuries in their 4-0 victory over FC Volyn Lutsk on 20th March and the duo missed Friday's 3-1 victory away to FC Illychivets Mariupil.
Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho made a welcome return to the starting XI on Friday after spending a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a broken leg sustained back in September.

Chelsea v Manchester United

Chelsea v Manchester United
7:35pm: "Tough one this," spurts Grame Neill. "Who do I want to lose more? Chelsea, with the preening tedious macho humbug of England's Brave John Terry and his one man mission to personify testosterone? Or United, starring the preening tedious macho humbug of self appointed Big Man Wayne Rooney and his big box of sweary tricks?"
Preamble:
[Adopt Barry Davies-esque tone] Look at those teams … just look at those teams! Manchester United have conceded fewer goals than any of the teams remaining in the tournament but Chelsea know they are defensively dodgy nonetheless and may go for the jugular tonight: Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba start together and attempting to contain them will be Nemanja Vidic - who has frequently seemed overwhelmed in recent weeks, including when he was sent off on his last visit to Stamford Bridge – and Rio Ferdinand, who may or may not be fit but, either way, is a safer option than Jonny Evans; whether Chris Smalling would have been a better inclusion, on the other hand, remains to be seen – then again, given Torres's tendency to float like a butterfly and sting like a former frontman of The Police (every little thing he does is pap), perhaps United are confident they can survive whatever the hosts can hurl at them and perhaps plunder a goal on the counter, especially with Chelsea shorn of the magnificently-coiffed David Luiz?
Mandatory deployment of the one sentence that can be uttered before every single football match at any level without the slighest fear of contradiction:Midfield is going to be a key battleground here. The TV folks are predicting that Park will be stationed on the left but he will surely spent a lot of his time in-field, otherwise Carrick and Giggs, haradly a dynami duo, will certainly be overrun by Essien, Lampard and Ramires (who continually cuts in from the right).
Teams:
Chelsea: Cech; Bosingwa, Ivanovic, Terry, Cole; Ramires, Lampard, Essien, Zhirkov; Drogba, Torres
Subs: Turnbull, Benayoun, Mikel, Malouda, Ferreira, Kalou, Anelka
United: Van der Sar; Rafael, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra; Valencia, Giggs, Carrick, Park; Hernandez, Rooney
Subs: Kuszczak, Berbatov, Smalling, Nani, Scholes, Evans, Gibson
Referee: Alberto Mallenco (Spain … in fact, he's from Pamplona, so, in the event of him making a bad decision, feel free to accuse him of being full of bull)
